Living near the Papakura boundary?
Most of Papakura sits on Vector, but the southern fringe of Papakura crosses onto the Counties Energy network. The quickest way to be sure is to check your exact address on either lines company's outage map: the boundary does not follow the suburb name neatly.

Dense housing, ageing feeders and big new growth zones
South Auckland combines some of the city's oldest suburban networks with its fastest-growing greenfield areas. That mix shapes where outages happen and how quickly Vector restores them.
Older overhead suburbs
Otara, Otahuhu, Papatoetoe, Mangere Bridge: mid-century streets still carry overhead lines. Tree contact, wind and the occasional car-versus-pole event drive most of the unplanned faults here.
Flat Bush and Takanini growth
Flat Bush, Takanini, Manukau fringe: rapid new housing means new substations and feeder extensions. Planned outages are more common here while Vector ties new subdivisions into the network.

Vector damage claim: process and realistic outcomes
If a surge on restoration kills a fridge, heat pump or modem, Vector accepts appliance damage claims online. The threshold for success is whether the fault was Vector's equipment rather than weather.
- 1Call 0508 832 867 and request the incident number. Note the time, the duration and any visible cause (transformer hum, tree on line, pole strike).
- 2Lodge the claim at vector.co.nz/claims within 30 days of the event, quoting that incident number.
- 3Include photos, the appliance model and age, the original receipt if available, and a registered electrician's report (Vector reimburses up to about NZ$120 for the report when the claim succeeds).
- 4Decision in 20 to 40 working days. Transformer failures and switching faults have the best success rate; storm-driven outages are usually excluded as force majeure, in which case your contents insurance is the better path.
