Switching power company in NZ is simple. Pick a new retailer, sign up online (you usually only need your ICP number from a past bill), and the new company handles the switch with your old retailer. The change takes 5–10 working days and your power supply is never interrupted.

We cover every major NZ retailer, from the four gentailers (Genesis, Contact, Mercury and Meridian) to independent retailers such as Nova Energy, Electric Kiwi, Flick, Pulse, 2degrees and Octopus Energy. Browse the full NZ retailer directory for live tariffs, contract terms and renewable share.

NZ retailers offer two pricing categories: low user (under 8,000 kWh/year, lower daily charge, higher per-unit rate) and standard user (over 8,000 kWh/year, higher daily charge, lower per-unit rate). The Electricity Authority is phasing out this distinction, but it still applies to most plans. See our low user vs standard user guide.
