How the tariff works
- Tariff type: primarily a single-rate plan with a daily fixed charge plus a variable per‑kWh usage charge. Customers are placed on either Standard User (higher daily charge, lower per‑kWh) or Low User (lower daily charge, higher per‑kWh) based on annual consumption thresholds (Low User generally under the applicable kWh limits for your island/region). On some networks with time‑of‑use inputs, Just Energy converts network TOU into a flat customer rate; load‑control/controlled hot‑water rates may apply where available.
- How charges are calculated: your bill includes the plan’s daily fixed charge, per‑kWh usage, applicable network service charges (flowed through), and statutory levies. Actual cents/kWh and daily charges depend on your ICP, network, and whether you are Low User or Standard User. Rates are not published generically; existing customers can view current prices via their account; prospective customers should obtain a quote.
- Eligibility notes: Low User pricing is only for primary residences and may be unavailable on some networks or in exempt areas. A smart meter is typically required for any optional TOU/day‑night variants on your network; where not available, a flat rate applies.
- Regional pricing guidance (contact required): For Northland, Auckland, Waikato, Bay of Plenty, Central North Island, Eastland, Taranaki, Whanganui, Wellington, Marlborough, Westland, Canterbury, Otago, and Southland, specific daily charges and cents/kWh vary by network and user type and cannot be confirmed publicly. Please contact Just Energy directly for the current rate for your address and meter.
Who this plan suits best
This plan suits customers who want simple, predictable pricing with no fixed‑term commitment and no conditional prompt‑payment discount requirements. Small households or efficient homes that use relatively low annual electricity (qualifying as Low User) may benefit from the lower daily charge structure; larger families or higher‑use homes typically align with Standard User pricing that trades a higher daily charge for a lower variable rate. Because customer rates are generally flat (with any network TOU charges converted to a flat customer rate), the plan best fits users who don’t wish to shift load into off‑peak windows. EV owners or households with highly flexible usage may prefer a dedicated TOU product to maximise overnight charging economics if available on their network, while this plan’s simplicity and lack of a term aligns well with renters, budgeters using SmoothPay, and customers who prefer low‑effort management.
Additional services included
Optional budgeting: SmoothPay lets customers spread bills evenly across the year (included; no fee), with payments by direct debit at a chosen frequency. My Account (online portal) and online billing are included at no cost and provide access to usage and billing. Dual‑fuel add‑ons: customers can add Natural Gas or LPG to receive one consolidated bill and qualify for the All Energy Discount (electricity + gas). LPG services include optional urgent delivery with published fees (e.g., urgent bottle delivery from $110; weekend/public‑holiday urgent delivery from $180), while standard bottle, delivery, and cylinder rental charges are quoted based on order and location. In‑store payment is available with a $2.50 fee; other optional service fees (e.g., special/final reads, reconnections) are listed on the Schedule of Fees.
Plan conditions at a glance
- No fixed‑term contract; customers can leave free of charge (the provider positions value in upfront pricing rather than prompt‑payment discounts).
- Customer must be placed on either Low User or Standard User pricing based on annual usage thresholds; Low User is only available for primary residences and may be unavailable on some networks or in exempt areas.
- One free switch between Low User and Standard User per ICP every 12 months; subsequent changes may incur a fee and are subject to lines company approval; accepted changes are typically completed within 5 working days.
- Network Services Charges are passed through without mark‑up for most residential customers and appear on the bill alongside energy charges and statutory levies.
- Prices and fees may change with at least 30 days’ notice; if an increase exceeds 5%, customers are notified individually and may terminate if they do not agree.
- Load control may be applied to eligible appliances (e.g., controlled hot water) per network arrangements; controlled‑load rates, where available, depend on metering and network settings.
- Additional service fees (e.g., special or final reads, reconnection/disconnection, paper billing, in‑store payment) apply as per the Schedule of Fees.
Promotions and discounts
• All Energy Discount: customers who take both electricity and gas with Just Energy receive a daily discount of 30 cents per day applied to their account. Eligibility requires having active electricity and gas services under the same account; the discount is ongoing while both fuels remain with the provider and continues through announced gas/LPG price changes. • Power Draw monthly giveaways: current customers are automatically entered each month to win bill credits. The typical prize pool includes multiple credits (e.g., 1 × $1,000; 3 × $500; 20 × $200; 30 × $150; 40 × $100). Extra entries are available for registering for My Account (+1), opting into online billing (+1), and for tenure with the retailer (+1 per year). Terms apply, winners receive credits on their accounts, and participation is automatic for eligible active customers. • Upfront low pricing model: the provider states it embeds value into plan pricing rather than offering a prompt payment discount. This is not a promotional rebate but indicates that no separate prompt-payment discount is available; instead, prices are positioned to be competitive without conditional discounts.
How Just can change this plan's price
Just Energy’s Standard Residential Terms state the retailer will give customers 30 days’ notice before changes to fees or charges take effect. If fees or charges increase by more than 5%, customers are notified individually by letter or email and the retailer will provide reasons for the increase. Customers may terminate the agreement if they do not agree with the change. Network Services Charges (lines and transmission) are flowed through with no mark‑up for most residential customers; these are set by the local lines company and Transpower and typically change on industry pricing reset dates (commonly 1 April). The retailer also reserves the right to adjust delivery‑related charges and pass through costs arising from transmission, distribution, or wholesale electricity market changes outside its reasonable control, with 30 days’ notice. In practice, the retailer communicates upcoming changes and allows customers to view new rates prior to the effective date via their account portal.
